At New Horizon, We Are Family
New Horizon is either a young or old church, depending on how you look at it. The church as it exists today was established in January, 2005, but it has its foundation built upon over 150 years of history in the Council Bluffs community. New Horizon is the result of the union of two churches, Grace Presbyterian and First Presbyterian, both of which were over 100 years old in their own right. But as with many things, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
The birth of New Horizon brought the birth of new ministries, new missions, new members and a new worship facility. The goal of our church is to know Christ and share God’s love – with our members, visitors, our community and our world. We strive to do this by providing a loving and comfortable environment where people from all walks of life can learn God’s teachings and experience fellowship in God’s name.
We participate both personally and financially in international, national and local missions. We encourage members of the New Horizon family to share their gifts of “treasure, time, and talent” with the world by volunteering within and outside of the church. We seek to nurture our youth by giving them a safe and loving church home, and by not only teaching them about God, but urging them to follow Christ’s example by going out and spreading His love through their actions.
New Horizon offers both traditional and contemporary services where people of all ages and backgrounds can find comfortable and inspiring ways to worship God through scripture, music and prayer. Christian education classes for both adults & high school youth and elementary & middle school youth are offered on Sunday mornings. Throughout the week there are prayer, study and mission groups that offer fellowship and spiritual growth. Small group activities also offer opportunities to meet with people of similar interests for book discussions, crafts, service opportunities and ministry outreach.
